Specimen Requirements

Submit BOTH of the following specimens:


Specimen Type: Whole Blood
Container/Tube: 1 Lavender top (EDTA) tube
Volume: 2.0 mL
Minimum volume: 2.0 mL

Collection Instructions: Send whole blood refrigerated
 

Specimen Type: Serum
Container/Tube: Red top (no additive) or Gold SST
Volume: 2.0 mL
Minimum volume: 2.0 mL

Collection Instructions: Allow specimen to clot for 30 minutes and centrifuge within 2 hours.  Aliquot serum and refrigerate.

 

Specimens will be rejected if whole blood and serum are not drawn and received together.
