  • Evaluating individuals with signs and symptoms associated with a variety of causes of vitamin B12 (cobalamin) deficiency

Specimen Collection: Blood

 

Container(s): Red top (no additive) or Gold Top (Serum Separator-SST Gel)

  • Preferred Volume to Collect: 6.0 mL
  • Minimum Volume to Collect: 1.0 mL
  • Neonate Volume to Collect: 1.0 mL
  • Capillary collect ok? Yes
  • Microtainer acceptable?  Yes

 

Collection Instructions:

  • Cannot be shared or combined with any other lab test.
  • After collection, gently invert tube 8-10 times.
  • Red top is preferred tube.
  • Specimen should be processed within 2 hours – See Processing Instructions below.
