Clinical Information

The presence of a BRAF fusion is reliable evidence that the tumor is a pilocytic astrocytoma (PA), provided the histology is compatible. BRAF fusion is associated with better prognosis in pediatric low-grade astrocytoma. The likelihood of a BRAF fusion in a pilocytic astrocytoma decreases with age. 

Collection Instructions

Submit only one of the following specimens:

 

 

Specimen Collection: Parafin block (Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue

Container(s): Formalin container

Collection Instructions:

Place specimen in 10% Formalin and order Tissue Pathology in addition to BRAF Gene Fusion

 

Specimen Collection: Fresh tissue: Flash Frozen, on dry ice (-80oC)

Collection Instructions:

Tissue collection in 10% Formalin.  Need to order Tissue Path.
