Specimen Requirements

Submit only one of the following specimens:

Preferred
Specimen Type: Heparnized Plasma
Container/Tube: Mint Green Top (Lithium Heparin Gel) tube
Volume: 4.5 mL
Minimum volume: 1.0 mL plasma

Pediatric volume: 0.5 mL

Capillary Collect Acceptable? No

Collection Instructions: Do not use alcohol or other volatile disinfectants at the site of venipuncture. Avoid prolonged exposure to air. Centrifuge within 2 hours.

Container/Tube: Gray top (potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride)
Volume: 6 mL
Minimum volume: 1 mL

Container/Tube: Red Top (no additive)
Volume: 6 mL
Minimum volume: 2 mL Serum
Collection Instructions: Do not use alcohol or other volatile disinfectants at the site of venipuncture. Avoid prolonged exposure to air.

Specimen Type: Serum
Container/Tube: Gold Top (Serum Separator-SST Gel)
Volume: 5 mL
Minimum volume: 1 mL Serum
Collection Instructions: Do not use alcohol or other volatile disinfectants at the site of venipuncture. Avoid prolonged exposure to air. Allow specimen to clot for 30 minutes and centrifuge within 2 hours.
