Use for the qualitative detection of IgG antibodies against the nucleocapsid protein of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) that develop in response to natural infection with SARS-CoV-2. These antibodies do not develop as a result of a COVID-19 vaccination.  

Recommended utilization limited to aid in the clinical diagnosis of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children or adults (MIS-C or MIS-A).

Clinical Information

Use for the qualitative detection of IgG antibodies against the nucleocapsid protein of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) that develop in response to natural infection with SARS-CoV-2. These antibodies do not develop as a result of a COVID-19 vaccination. There are no current recommendations for assessing COVID-19 vaccine response.

Collection Instructions

Container(s): Gold top (Serum Separator SST)  or EDTA plasma

Preferred Volume to Collect: 1.5 mL

Minimum Volume to Collect: 1 mL

Submission Container/Tube:  Plastic vial

Collection Instructions:

  • After collection, gently invert tube 8-10 times.
  • Specimen should be processed ASAP or within 2 hours – See Processing Instructions below.

 

 

PROCESSING INSTRUCTIONS (Laboratory, Outpatient or Off-site collection)

Processed Specimen: Serum or Plasma

Centrifuge/Spin: Yes

Aliquot: Yes

Processing Instructions:

  • Allow blood to clot for 30 minutes in a vertical position and centrifuge promptly.
  • Within two hours aliquot serum or plasma into a plastic transport tube and refrigerate as soon as possible.

Grossly hemolyzed, lipemic or severely lipemic specimens. Postmortem specimens.
