Important Note

Only available to order by Infectious Disease team. Prefered collection containers are available in inpatient plebotomy at Butterworth and Blodget. If at a regional facility- please contact Referrals (616.267.2753) to request delivery of the tube.

Alternatitvely (if difficult draw)- a lavender tube may be collected.

Please transport all specimens to SHRL after colletion/processing.

 

Order as Reference Miscellaneous #LAB848; indicate complete test name when ordering.

Infectious

Processing Instructions (Laboratory, Outpatient or Off-site collection)

  • Preferred method- collect 5mL in special Karius tube (do not open)
    • Centrifuge within 6 hours at 3000 RPM for 10 minutes.

 

  • Alternative method (pediatric/difficult draw)– collect 1-3 mL in EDTA tube
    • DELIVER TO SHRL WITHIN 5 HOURS OF COLLECTION
      • Centrifuge within 6 hours at 3500 RPM for 10 minutes.
        • Referrals/Hematology to pour over into Karius specific pour over container.

Specimen Stability

Stable 3 days ambient. Freeze after 72 hours.
