Epic Code LAB9130 Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Quantitative PCR, Blood/Plasma

Important Note

This orderable should only be used for testing on blood/plasma. For all other specimen types, please refer to Test: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Transplant, performed at Viracor/IBT Laboratories.

Specimens received in the Molecular Department by 11:00 AM Monday through Friday will be resulted the same day. For any specimens of an urgent nature that may arrive after the designated cutoff times, please contact the Molecular Department at 616.486.6280.

Test Name Alias

CMV Quantitative PCR | 9028 | CMV DNA Quant

Interface Order Alias

10838

Clinical Information

This assay is traceable to the WHO CMV International Standard (NIBSC #09/162) and results are reported in International Units per milliliter (IU/mL).  The lower quantitative sensitivity was validated to 60 IU/mL.  To facilitate longitudinal tracking, if no viral DNA is detected, the result is reported as 0 (zero).  Low positive results, below 60 IU/mL, will be reported, but should be interpreted with caution.  Viral loads greater than the upper limit of the assay are reported as >35.4 million IU/mL.
